The train found its way to Chelmsford in eighteen forty two (Eastern Counties Railway) bringing more affluence to the town, the same as the Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation had some approximately forty five years earlier (1797), at which time it joined the town with the Blackwater estuary, letting vessels to sail to the heart of the town from the open sea.

Chelmsford got into serious decline in the 1980's, as a high percentage of its industry ceased to be profitable, even so it remains a successful and blooming town today, largely because of its nearness to London, plus the outstanding road and rail communications.
