The county town of Essex, Chelmsford is positioned upon the rivers Chelmer and Can, a drive of some thirty two miles from the city of London. The town boasts a populace of around one hundred and eleven thousand inhabitants, whereas the Borough of Chelmsford has around 168,000.

The town got into a period of decline in the 1980's, mainly because a high percentage of its manufacturing plants ceased to be profitable, although it is still a thriving and expanding town today, predominantly due to the close proximity to London, and its excellent road and rail links.
