The county town of Essex, Chelmsford can be found upon the Can and Chelmer rivers, roughly 32 mls from the centre of London. The town boasts a populace of around 110,000 residents, and the Borough of Chelmsford has around 168,000.

It is an early town which was the location of a Roman fortress in approximately 60 AD. Chelmsford's parish church, dedicated to St Mary the Virgin was honoured with the title of a cathedral in 1914. The town is twinned with Annonay in France and Backnang in Germany.
