The county town of Essex, Chelmsford can be found on the rivers Can and Chelmer, approximately thirty two miles from the city of London. The town has got a populace of about 110,000 people, and the Borough of Chelmsford has approximately 168,300.

At the time of the 13th Cent, Chelmsford became the county town of Essex plus became seat of the local assize. During the 14th C a number of the occupants of the town became involved in the Peasants Revolt (1381), a handful of the main agitators were accordingly executed in Chelmsford after Richard the Second ended the rebellion.

The seventeenth century witnessed more executions as the"Witchfinder General" Matthew Hopkins, tried and hanged countless supposed witches.
