The county town of Essex, Chelmsford is located on the Can and Chelmer rivers, some 32 mls from central London. The town has got a populace of around 110,000 occupants, and the Borough of Chelmsford has approximately 168,000.

An Anglo Saxon camp came after the end of the Romans in Britain, and in the Domesday Book of 1086 it was named Celmeresfort, although 100 years later it was being referred to by its present identity of Chelmsford.

During the thirteenth century, Chelmsford became the county town of Essex and moreover became the seat of the local assize. During the fourteenth century some of the people of Chelmsford became involved in the Peasants Revolt (1381), a handful of the agitators were accordingly put to death in the town after Richard the Second ended the uprising.

The 17th Cent witnessed lots more executions when the"Witchfinder General" Matthew Hopkins, put on trial and put to death countless presumed witches.

For several centuries a market town and agricultural centre, Chelmsford developed into a major manufacturing town in the 19th C, crafting such items as wirelesses, ball bearings, steam engines, electrical engineering products and traction engines.
