The county town of Essex, Chelmsford can be found on the Can and Chelmer rivers, some 32 mls from the city of London. The town boasts a populace of some one hundred and eleven thousand inhabitants, while the Borough of Chelmsford has approximately 168,300.

It is a historic town that was the location of a Roman fortification in approximately 60 AD. Chelmsford's parish church, dedicated to St Mary the Virgin was given the title of a cathedral in 1914. The town is twinned with Backnang (Germany) and Annonay (France).
