Essex's county town, Chelmsford is found upon the Chelmer and Can rivers, a car journey of about 32 miles from the centre of London. Chelmsford has got a population of approximately one hundred and eleven thousand occupants, whilst the Borough of Chelmsford has roughly 168,300.

An Anglo Saxon community followed the decline of the Roman Empire in Britain, and much later in the 1086 Domesday Book it was named Celmeresfort, whilst by the year 1199 it was being referred to by its contemporary name of Chelmsford.

As long ago thirteenth century, Chelmsford became the county town of Essex and additionally became the seat of the local assize. In the 14th C some of the inhabitants of the town became involved in the 1381 Peasant Revolt, a number of the main agitators were thereafter hung in the town after Richard the Second ended the revolt.
