The county town of Essex, Chelmsford sits on the rivers Chelmer and Can, around 32 miles from central London. The town boasts a populace of some one hundred and eleven thousand occupants, and the Borough of Chelmsford has about 168,300.

A Saxon camp superseded the demise of Roman control in Britain, and in the eleventh century Domesday Book it was registered as Celmeresfort, nevertheless by1189 it had become known by its present-day identity of Chelmsford.

At the time of the 13th C, Chelmsford took on the title of county town of Essex and moreover became the seat of the local assize. In the fourteenth century a number of the citizens of Chelmsford took part in the 1381 Peasant Revolt, a handful of the agitators were accordingly executed in Chelmsford after Richard the Second ended the uprising.
