Essex's county town, Chelmsford is found upon the Can and Chelmer rivers, some thirty two mls from the heart of London. Chelmsford has got a population of roughly 111,000 inhabitants, while the Borough of Chelmsford has approximately 168,300.

It is an early town that was the location of a Roman fort in approximately 60 AD. Its St Mary the Virgin parish church was changed into a cathedral in 1914. The town is twinned with Backnang in Germany and Annonay in France.
