The county town of Essex, Chelmsford lies on the Chelmer and Can rivers, some 32 mls from the heart of London. Chelmsford has got a population of approximately one hundred and eleven thousand residents, and the Borough of Chelmsford has around 168,300.

It is a historic town that was the location of a Roman fort in approximately 60 AD. Chelmsford's parish church St Mary the Virgin was changed into a cathedral in 1914. The town is twinned with Annonay in France and Backnang in Germany.
