The county town of Essex, Chelmsford is situated upon the Can and Chelmer rivers, some thirty two mls from the heart of London. The town has got a populace of about 111,000 people, while the Borough of Chelmsford has around 168,300.

During the 13th Cent, Chelmsford became the county town of Essex and additionally became seat of the local assize. During the fourteenth century some of the occupants of Chelmsford took part in the 1381 Peasant Revolt, several of the main culprits were ultimately hung in Chelmsford after the uprising was ended by Richard II.
