Essex's county town, Chelmsford stands upon the rivers Can and Chelmer, about thirty two miles from the heart of London. Chelmsford has got a population of approximately 110,000 residents, while the Borough of Chelmsford has roughly 168,300.

An Anglo Saxon settlement superseded the demise of the Roman Empire in Britain, and much later in the Domesday Book of 1086 it was noted as Celmeresfort, although 100 years later it had taken on its current title of Chelmsford.

As long ago thirteenth century, Chelmsford took on the title of county town of Essex and in addition became the seat of the local assize. In the fourteenth century a number of the occupants of Chelmsford participated in the 1381 Peasant Revolt, a handful of the instigators were ultimately hung in the town after the insurrection was ended by Richard the Second.
