Essex's county town, Chelmsford can be found upon the Can and Chelmer rivers, some thirty two miles from the heart of London. Chelmsford boasts a populace of approximately one hundred and eleven thousand residents, whereas the Borough of Chelmsford has roughly 168,000.

An Anglo Saxon encampment followed after the decline of the Romans in Britain, and much later in the 1086 Domesday Book it was documented as Celmeresfort, nonetheless by the year 1199 being called by its current identity of Chelmsford.
