Essex's county town, Chelmsford is found upon the rivers Can and Chelmer, some 32 miles from the heart of London. Chelmsford has got a population of about 111,500 occupants, and the Borough of Chelmsford has around 168,000.

It is a historic town which was the location of a Roman fortress in about 60 AD. Its parish church, dedicated to St Mary the Virgin was honoured with the title of a cathedral in 1914. The town is twinned with Backnang in Germany and Annonay in France.
