The county town of Essex, Chelmsford is found on the Can and Chelmer rivers, some thirty two mls from the heart of London. Chelmsford has a populace of roughly 111,000 occupants, and the Borough of Chelmsford has about 168,000.

It is a historic town which was the location of a Roman fortress in about 60 AD. Chelmsford's parish church St Mary the Virgin was given the title of a cathedral in 1914. The city is twinned with Backnang (Germany) and Annonay (France).
