The county town of Essex, Chelmsford lies on the Chelmer and Can rivers, approximately 32 miles from the heart of London. Chelmsford has got a population of about 111,000 occupants, and the Borough of Chelmsford has around 168,300.

It is an early town which was the location of a Roman fortification in around 60 AD. Chelmsford's St Mary the Virgin parish church was named a cathedral in 1914. Chelmsford is twinned with Backnang (Germany) and Annonay (France).
