Essex's county town, Chelmsford lies on the rivers Can and Chelmer, some 32 miles from the heart of London. Chelmsford has got a populace of approximately 111,000 occupants, and the Borough of Chelmsford has about 168,300.

The seventeenth century witnessed lots more executions as Matthew Hopkins, the "Witchfinder General", put on trial and executed countless alleged witches.
