The county town of Essex, Chelmsford is situated upon the Chelmer and Can rivers, roughly thirty two mls from central London. Chelmsford has got a population of about 110,000 residents, and the Borough of Chelmsford has about 168,000.

During the thirteenth century, Chelmsford took on the title of county town of Essex and also became seat of the local assize.
