The county town of Essex, Chelmsford can be found upon the rivers Can and Chelmer, some thirty two mls from the city of London. Chelmsford has got a population of around 111,500 occupants, whilst the Borough of Chelmsford has roughly 168,000.

It is an old town which was the location of a Roman fort in about 60 AD. Its parish church St Mary the Virgin was given the title of a cathedral in 1914. The town is twinned with Annonay in France and Backnang in Germany.
