The county town of Essex, Chelmsford sits on the Can and Chelmer rivers, around thirty two miles from the city of London. The town boasts a population of approximately 111,500 inhabitants, while the Borough of Chelmsford has around 168,300.

It is a historic town that was the location of a Roman fortification in approximately 60 AD. Chelmsford's St Mary the Virgin parish church was honoured with the title of a cathedral in 1914. The town is twinned with Backnang (Germany) and Annonay (France).
