Essex's county town, Chelmsford is found on the rivers Chelmer and Can, some thirty two mls from the heart of London. The town has a populace of approximately 111,500 occupants, while the Borough of Chelmsford has roughly 168,300.

An Anglo Saxon settlement came after the demise of Roman control in Britain, and in the Domesday Book of 1086 it was documented as Celmeresfort, however 100 years later being called by its present-day title of Chelmsford.

As long ago 13th Cent, Chelmsford became the county town of Essex and in addition became the seat of the local assize. In the 14th century a number of the locals of Chelmsford took part in the 1381 Peasant Revolt, a number of the instigators were accordingly put to death in Chelmsford after Richard II ended the uprising.

The town got into serious decline during the 1980's, when much of its industry went bust, though it still is a thriving and booming town today, principally due to the closeness to the city of london, plus the outstanding road and rail links.
