The county town of Essex, Chelmsford is positioned on the Can and Chelmer rivers, some thirty two miles from central London. The town has a population of roughly 111,000 occupants, and the Borough of Chelmsford has approximately 168,300.

It is a historical town which was the location of a Roman fortress in approximately 60 AD. Its parish church, dedicated to St Mary the Virgin was honoured with the title of a cathedral in 1914. The city is twinned with Backnang (Germany) and Annonay (France).
