The county town of Essex, Chelmsford is positioned upon the rivers Chelmer and Can, a car journey of some thirty two mls from the city of London. The town has got a population of some 110,000 residents, whilst the Borough of Chelmsford has around 168,000.

It is a historical town that was the location of a Roman fortification in around 60 AD. Chelmsford's parish church, dedicated to St Mary the Virgin was honoured with the title of a cathedral in 1914. The town is twinned with Backnang in Germany and Annonay in France.
