The county town of Essex, Chelmsford is set on the Can and Chelmer rivers, about thirty two miles from the centre of London. Chelmsford has got a population of roughly 111,000 people, while the Borough of Chelmsford has about 168,300.

It is a historical town which was the location of a Roman fortification in around 60 AD. Chelmsford's parish church St Mary the Virgin was named a cathedral in 1914. The town is twinned with Backnang (Germany) and Annonay (France).
