The train arrived in Chelmsford in 1842 (Eastern Counties Railway) bringing greater prosperity for the town, the same as the Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation had some about 45 yrs before (1797), when it connected Chelmsford with the estuary of the River Blackwater, which made it possible for watercraft to access the heart of the town from the open sea.

Chelmsford got into substantial decline during the nineteen-eighties, since a high percentage of its industry shut down, even so it remains a flourishing and booming town today, primarily due to its close proximity to London, plus the first rate rail and road links.
